Razz Low Ball Poker

Play Online Poker

Razz low ball poker is a version of poker where in the odds are reversed that is the player with the lowest hand wins. To play this game players need to be conversant with the ace to five rule which states that ace is the highest card in the deck and that straights and flushes if they occur are not valid reasons for a person to win the pot. The best possible hand one can think of having in this version of the game is A-2 -3- 4- 6 or A- 2-3-5-6, wherein suits are of no relevance, so the Ace of Spades is the same game-wise as the Ace of Hearts.

Rules and strategy

Razz lowball poker is played using a standard betting structure that is acknowledged by 8 players which is the limit. The game starts with each player placing an ante bet which is usually 1/10th of the small bet amount. However the percentage of the ante doesn't always depend upon the betting amount but it varies from places keeping in mind the stakes at hand and the mentality of those playing. After each player has placed their bets cards are dealt to the players. The dealing setup consists of 2 cards in the face down position while one card is n the face up position. The player with the highest value of the face up card places a bet which is known as a ‘bring in' amount after which betting is open to all players in a systematic and clockwise manner. The ‘bring in' amount varies on the stakes and the place where the game is being played. Normal poker rules like call, raise fold etc. are encouraged until the pot is capped which is usually after almost 4 to 5 bets have been placed. After this the dealer again deals a face up card for each player and the one with the lowest value is given the green light to place his bet. After the betting round, two face up cards are dealt to all players at suitable time intervals after which a betting round follows. A final card is then dealt to each player and the one with the best or lowest A to 5 hand wins or you can say steals the pot.

An unheard of aspect that is there but never been used is the possibility of having a community card. This is put in place as in a razz lowball poker game there is a possibility of players not getting cards as a deck of cards holds 52 cards and each person receives up to 7 cards. Thus if such a condition arises where in there are not enough cards to deal the final card to each player a solitary card will be placed in the centre on the playing table and will be known as the community card. This card can be used by all players. This rule has not been seen in use as after the first round of the game there is never a tendency of the game going into an eight handed conquest.
